If you are looking to generate more Probate instructions here are three things you can do for free right now and two that we can help you with.

Google My Business

Ensure you have an up to date Google My Business Profile (it’s free), which includes a list of your services. This will help you appear for searches such as ‘probate solicitor near me’. Here’s a great article which provides a step by step guide on how to improve your profile.

SEO

You might not be an expert in Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), but at a local level you don’t always need to do a great deal to appear in the top few results for geographical phrases such as ‘Probate Solicitors Preston’.

Your main probate page should include all of the following:

  • A well written page title (the bit that appears in the bar at the top of your page). Most content management systems will allow you to change this yourself. Using the example above you might want the page title to be 'Probate Solicitors Preston' followed by your firm name.

  • A heading which also focus on the key phrase you want to target.

  • Content which includes the key phrase, synonyms of this and is ideally 1000+words long.

In some cases that will be enough to appear in the top three results, depending on how competitive the phrase.

Probate Referral Strategy

A confession - over 20+ years of marketing and business development I have found the most ‘obvious’ route to probate referrals - funeral directors, a very hard nut to crack. That doesn’t mean it’s not worth trying but be prepared to invest time in building the relationship and look to refer back where possible, which is most likely to be funeral plans.

Other professional advisors to consider would Will Writers - some of the largest probate businesses generate a substantial flow of work from them, as well as IFAs, accountants and law firms who don’t do probate.

As ever my rule is that if you want to receive referrals then start by giving referrals!
